Making sounposts. Split from fine spruce stock or the spare from top wedges. Once split to the natural cleave - they are bandsawed
to about half a mm oversized. This is a quick eay to make them square - then I glue in a skewer about 5mm into the end. They can
then be easily planed on the corners - and are finished off in the sanding groove - stuck with a loading to end up the right radius.
The slewer enables you to push and pull them and turn at the same time.
Fiddly thing to do on a lathe, even if I had one. Maybe worth it for cello posts.
