A Guarneri model violin, ff's partly cut without its nicks. Sealing the edges of the spruce
helps the cutting of the groove which is done with a knife. Its very easy to lose the inner corner points !
The groove here is 1.2mm wide. I enjoy purfling by hand - others do not !
